Bess quickly becomes a central factor in the global energy transition, but the sector is still confronted with considerable operational and financial risks that change the way in which assets are used and managed on a large scale. As a result, performance insights from practice are crucial for investors, developers and operators.

The Accure Energy Storage System Health & Performance Report 2025, which was released last month, offers what is described as the first large-scale analysis of Operational BESS data. Although most systems perform reliably, the report finds that the sector still has considerable room for improvement.

Based on data from more than 100 systems on Netschaal – each with a capacity of more than 10 MWh – the report analyzes a total of 18 GWh of operational battery storage agents worldwide
