Ørsted has sold its European onshore renewable energy activities to Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
Completion of the €1.44 billion (£1.25 billion) transaction is expected in the second quarter of this year, subject to regulatory approval.
Through its fifth flagship fund, Copenhagen Infrastructure V (CI V), CIP has agreed to acquire the portfolio, which includes 825 MW of onshore wind, solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects in Ireland, the UK, Germany and Spain.
The portfolio includes an operational capacity of 577 MW, 248 MW under construction and a multi-gigawatt development pipeline. Operating UK assets totaling 82.4 MW are included in the sale. Ørsted will continue to own and operate its onshore US operations, which have been a standalone company since October 2025.
Ørsted said Solar energy portal that the under-construction 300MW/600MWh BESS, located next to the 2.9GW Hornsea 3 offshore wind project, is not part of the sale. It was is not part of a transaction completed in December that saw the sale of 50% of Hornsea 3 to asset manager Apolloand is Ørsted’s first large-scale BESS in Britain.
The sale includes Ørsted’s onshore business unit, headquartered in Cork, Ireland, with CIP operating the business under a new name. Kieran White, senior vice president of Europe Onshore at Ørsted said: “In the coming months we will announce a new company name and brand. What will not change are our people, resources, projects and ambition to deliver renewable energy at scale across Europe.”
The transaction contributes to Ørsted’s strategic priority to refocus on offshore wind energy in its core European markets, the company said.
In addition to selling a 50% stake in Hornsea 3, Ørsted also divested a 55% stake in its Greater Changhua 2 offshore wind project in Taiwan last year, making the sale of its European onshore operations the third phase of a divestment program previously announced by the company.
