Pexapark says European developers signed 28 PPAs for 1.5 GW in April – SPE

Swiss consultancy Pexapark says the total capacity of signed power purchase agreements (PPA) in Europe more than doubled in April compared to the volume in March. Meanwhile, all tracked PPA prices rose 1.6% month-on-month.

European developers signed 28 PPAs in April for a total of 1.5 GW. according to the latest report of Pexapark. The total capacity has more than doubled compared to the amount registered by Pexapark Marchmaking April the second strongest month in terms of PPA activity this year.

The second largest renewable energy deal was an onshore wind deal between Alterric and Statkraft, followed by a pay-as-produced 134 MW solar PPA between ib Vogt and Apple in Spain, scheduled to be commissioned by the end of this year to be expected. In total, solar energy accounted for 55% (845 MW) of PPA capacity in April.

Germany topped the deal count in April with six PPA announcements, for a total of 550 MW, followed by Britain and France, which booked four and three PPA deals respectively.

During the first three months of 2024, Pexapark recorded 6.2 GW of PPA activity across 122 deals. This is slightly lower than the 6.6 GW registered in the first third of 2023, but represents a 43% increase in the number of deals.

Solar has claimed the lion’s share of deals so far in 2024, accounting for more than 3 GW across 63 deals. Country analysis showed that Germany led the way in the first three months of this year, both in terms of volume and number of deals, with 1.23 GW across 24 deals.
