This is evident from a national poll conducted by Fabrizio, Lee & AssociationsRepublicans and voters who supported President Donald Trump approve of solar energy.

The survey was conducted on behalf of the American solar panel manufacturer First solar energy. Fabrizio, Lee & Associates surveyed 800 Republicans, Republican Independents and Trump Supporters (GOP+) and found:

  • They favor the use of utility-scale solar by a margin of more than 20 points, with 51% in favor.
  • If the panels used for solar energy are American-made and have no ties to China, support for solar energy increases even further. Those in favor rise to 70%, while only 19% are against.
  • 68% agree that the United States needs all forms of electricity generation, including utility-scale solar, to reduce electricity costs, compared to 22% who disagree.
  • 79% agree that the government should allow all forms of electricity generation, including utility-scale solar, to compete on its own and without political interference, compared to 11% who disagree.
  • A clear majority (52%) of GOP+ voters are more likely to support a Congressional candidate if they support a comprehensive energy agenda, including the use of solar energy. Likewise, 51% are more likely to vote for a candidate who supported an American company building a solar panel factory in the United States.

Fabrizio, Lee & Associates pollsters Tony Fabrizio, David Lee and Travis Tunis said, “GOP+ voters want America to have energy independence and their electric bills to be affordable. They understand that solar energy is a key aspect of making that happen, especially when the panels for that solar energy can be made right here in the U.S., without any ties to China.”

First Solar has been producing thin-film solar panels in the United States since 2002. The company has offices in Ohio, Alabama and Louisiana and has a location under construction in South Carolina – all Republican states in the 2024 elections.

“The data shows that the role of utility-scale solar, and especially solar powered by American technology, is clearly supported by this key voter demographic,” said Samantha Sloan, EVP of corporate affairs for First Solar. “It’s time for us to focus on what matters to our country: a common-sense approach to energy generation that uses all available tools, including American solar energy, to generate every electron possible to drive growth, prosperity and energy dominance.”

Fabrizio, Lee & Associates conducted a national survey of 800 Republicans, Republican Independents and Trump Voters (GOP+) from January 19 to 21, 2026. The interviews were split into 40% mobile phone via live operator/15% landline via live operator/45% SMS to internet. Gender, age, race/ethnicity and education were matched to demographic profiles of GOP+ voters based on the voter base and exit polls. Respondents were randomly selected from lists of registered voters. The margin of sampling error at the 95% confidence interval is ±3.46%.
