Premier Energies Ltd unveiled India’s first zero-busbar (0BB) TOPCon solar cell at Intersolar, Gandhinagar. The 0BB design marks a structural shift from traditional 10BB and 16BB architectures, replacing thick silver rails with a dense matrix of ultra-fine silver lines to collect power.

This next-generation architecture significantly reduces silver consumption, minimizes shadow losses and delivers higher power than conventional designs. The zero-busbar structure also improves mechanical flexibility, reduces stress on cell interconnections and improves resistance to micro-cracks. These features, according to the manufacturer, ensure stronger long-term reliability and superior performance in demanding Indian climates.

“Zero Busbar is not an incremental upgrade, it is a redesign of solar cell technology,” said Sudhir Reddy, Chief Strategy Officer of Premier Energies. “By reducing silver use while improving efficiency and sustainability, we strengthen both performance economics and sustainability in solar energy production.”

Chandra Mauli Kumar, Chief Production Officer at Premier Energies, added: “Scaling up 0BB required significant manufacturing precision and process innovation. Our integrated capabilities enable us to deliver improved crack tolerance, reduced interconnect stress and consistent performance at extreme temperatures.”

Premier Energies is one of the largest integrated solar energy producers in India. The company is executing an INR 12,500 crore ($1.36 billion) plan over three years to more than double its solar manufacturing capacity, backward integrate into billet wafers and focus on aligned areas such as inverters, transformers and battery systems.
