Future site of the Lake Jody Community Solar Farm is being developed by Prosperity Works and Chaberton Energy.

Prosperity Works and Chaberton Energy have been seized on the new Open Community Market in New Mexico and started the development of one project, with four extra projects awaiting approval.

The 2.8 MWDC Lake Jody Project in Deming, New Mexico, is now under development. Lake Jody will put the equivalent of 650 New Mexico households in the PNM service area of Stroom and will operate 50% subscribers with a low income with a 30% discount.

The two organizations have tailored to the development of solar energy based on shared values of supporting communities in need. Prosperity Works is a non-profit organization in New Mexico that sees community zoning as one of the levers that can put money back in the bags of families with a low income.

“The Lake Jody project and others in the Prosperity Works portfolio show how community projects can offer significant benefits for the community for communities with a low income,” said Chuck Watkins, VP of Development at Chaberton Energy. “We are proud to do this work and enthusiastically to support affordable, clean energy for new Mexicans.”

The four projects on the waiting list are in Alamogordo, Belen, Lordsburg and Silver City in Central and Southwest -Snew Mexico, all are also in the PNM service area. They have a combined electric generation capacity of 28 MWDC.

These projects are part of the New Mexico Community Solar Program, initiated under the Solar Act Community and in April 2021 signed by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. In general, the State is planning to add 500 MW of Community -Zonne -Zonne -Energy.
