The implementation of the British heat pump has been considerably accelerated in the first half of 2025, with a record number of government grants and certified installations registered.

Data from certification body MCS show more than 30,000 certified heat pump installations in the first half of 2025, an increase of 12% compared to the previous year. There were 30,144 air-sourced, 413 soil source and 46 “other” certified heat pump installations during the period.

Subsidy support is one of the most important factors behind the approval of the housing pump in the United Kingdom, subsidies issued via GBP 7,500 ($ 10,000) via the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (Bus) in England and Wales, and an equivalent subsidy and loan scheme in Scotland.

The number of heat pump subsidies issued via the bus that was risen in the first half of 2025, according to data from the British government, with 19,118 air vouchers for air pump issued by the end of June. It is the strongest period of six months since the scheme was opened in April 2022. The first six months of 2025 accounted for 26% of all applications for air pump pump that have been issued since the start of the schedule.

June 2025 was also the third strong month ever for heat pump subsidy applications in England and Wales, according to the latest government data. There were 3,676 applications for bus fair for heat pump bus in June 2025 and 31 for soil heat pumps.

Ian Rippin, CEO of MCS, said that with approximately 14% of British greenhouse gas emissions is estimated from domestic heating, “It is crucial that installations of low -quality technologies are delivered to high quality.” MCS publishes product and installation standards for heat pumps in the UK.

Charlotte Lee, Chief Executive at the Heat Pump Association, described the installation figures of the heat pump as ‘fantastic’. Lee emphasized the GBP 13.2 billion that the British government has associated with its Warm Homes plan as a “significant obligation, which we expect to outline further support for the electrification of heat.” The plan includes an increased budget for support for bus fair and other measures for building efficiency, such as financing for home insulation for social housing and residents, tenants and households with a low income.

Heat pump subsidies by the bus are available for small or medium-sized non-domestic buildings when installing an air source or ground source heat pump. The subsidy scheme also offers a GBP 5,000 subsidy for the installation of biomass boiler in limited circumstances. The Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan Scheme offers a subsidy of a maximum of GBP 7,500 and an extra GBP 7,500 financing available as an optional interest -free loan.
