The approval of the Chilean Environmental Assessment Commission marks an important milestone for RWEs $ 300 million solar and storage project, which introduced the permit in January 2024. The construction is planned for 2026, with commercial operation aimed at 2027.

The five -hour Bess is designed to offer stability and flexibility to the national schedule of Chile. It will store huge amounts of solar energy that are generated in the atacama in the day and sends it during the peak question periods of the evening, a critical function for integrating renewable energy sources.

The facility connects to the grid via a transmission line of 30 km, 220 kV.
