The US-based heating solutions provider said its Hylex inverter-driven heat pump offers 2 to 5 ton capacity, high efficiency, Wi-Fi control and reliable performance in cold climates down to -25 C.

Samsung HVAC North America LLC, a joint venture between South Korean technology giant Samsung and US-based heating specialist Lennox, this week launched a new inverter heat pump system for residential applications.

“Designed with an inverter-driven compressor and engineered for installation flexibility, Hylex helps homeowners and contractors in the Northeast achieve efficiency, comfort and sustainability goals – without sacrificing performance during the colder months,” the company said in a statement. “Hylex is designed with modern homes in mind and has a compact footprint compared to traditional unitary systems. Its smaller size makes it well-suited for properties without a lot line, preserving outdoor space – and it offers wall-mount installation options for added flexibility.”

The new product uses R-454B as a refrigerant and has sizes ranging from 2 tons to 5 tons. The number of tons does not refer to the weight, but to the tons of heat that a house needs.

The cooling capacity ranges from 24,000 Btuh to 54,000 Btuh, while the heating capacity ranges from 25,00 Btuh to 56,000 Btuh.

According to the manufacturer, the system has a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio 2 (SEER2) of up to 15.2, a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Factor 2 (HSPF2) for heating of up to 8.2 and an Energy Efficiency Ratio 2 (EER2) of up to 11.

The units also feature Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing homeowners to monitor and control the system via Samsung’s SmartThings platform. The operating range is extended, with cooling possible from -20 C to 50 C and heating down to -25 C.

The heat pump is compatible with any 24VAC thermostat or communicating controllers from Samsung. It can be connected to any coil equipped with a thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) and can be combined with a furnace or A-coil for dual fuel setups. The system’s full variable speed compressor provides wide modulation, allowing consistent comfort and minimizing energy consumption, according to the manufacturer. A bottom heater is included as standard, which increases reliability in colder climates.

“Hylex is a strong solution for applications in cold climates that traditionally rely on fossil fuels as a primary heating source,” the company said. “The system can also be configured for dual-fuel operation, allowing the heat pump to manage daily heating needs, while a secondary heat source supports extreme weather conditions.”
