Slovenia’s Holding Slovenske Elektarne (HSE), a state -owned company in state ownership, is working on a 140 MW floating solar project.
The Družmirje Floating Solar Power Plant (PSE Družmirje) is set at a maximum of half of the surface of Lake Družmirje, a more formed by decades of connecting mining in the neighborhood of the city of Šoštanj, North Slovenia.
Simon čižmek, project manager for the floating tanning factory, said PV -Magazine That work is currently underway on spatial planning activities, with the decree of the spatial plan that is expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of this year. A public consultation took place earlier this week.
Čižmek advised that the project, with an estimated Capex of approximately € 100 million ($ 116.6 million), will be financed by HSE’s own funds, loans and support from the righteous transition fund of the European Union. It will only be owned by HSE and will be operated by one of his subsidiaries, HSE Saša.
“The similarities with the local authorities are underway, we are very positive about the outcome and hope that the financial and other benefits will be shared with the locals in all kinds of different ways,” čižmek added. According to details on the HSE website, the Lakeside area will be converted into a recreational and social space for the local community once PSE Družmirje is built.
Since HSE is a state -owned company, the project will be subject to public tenders of the EU. Construction works are currently planned to start at the third quarter of 2026, prior to a planned production date in the first quarter of 2027.
Once operational, PSE Družmirje is expected to generate electricity annually, comparable to the annual offer for around 35,000 Slovenian households. Until now, it is probably the largest floating solar project in Europe, an award of an award of a 74.3 MW Array in France that was inaugurated in June of this year.
Pse Družmirje is also the largest solar project in Slovenia in development. The Slovenian market is dominated by residential and C&I format solar installations, with the market for utility scale still in the early stages of development. In May, the Slovenian government approved a spatial plan for a solar project of 30 MW, the largest project mounted on the ground so far. The project investor is mentioned as Slovenian energy company Dravska Elektarna Maribor, another subsidiaries from HSE.
The cumulative solar capacity of Slovenia reached approximately 1.5 GW towards the end of the first half of 2025, after 85 MW Zonne Zon was used during the first six months of the year. In 2024, the country used 298 MW Zonne -Zonne energy in 2023.
