Two leisure centers in the local authorities have received solar panel installations on the roof thanks to the financing of Sport England.

Sport England’s swimming pool support schedule is a national schedule that has so far divided more than £ 80 million to improve the energy efficiency of public swimming pools in the United Kingdom. Workington Leisure Center in Cumberland has recently installed a 160 kW of solar array, while Witham Leisure Center near Braintree, Essex, has completed an installation of 407 kW solar panel.

The installation at Witham Leisure Center consists of 983 solar panels, spread over carports for solar energy and an array on the roof. RenEnergy supported Braintree Council for the project by designing and installing the solar system, which is expected to generate more than 399 MWH energy every year. As a result, the leisure center will work with 34.7% self -supply, which is expected to result in considerable savings in operational costs.

Damian Baker, director of Rennergy UK, noted that the company has seen an increase in the number of companies and local authorities who are looking for sustainability solutions. He added: “It is great to see that more companies notice how apparently small things can make a huge difference. It is more than possible to achieve environmental goals without reducing the operational efficiency of the buildings on which we are working.”

In the meantime, the new Zonne -Array from the Workson Leisure Center in Cumberland was installed by local solar installation specialists Love Solar. The Array of 160 KW is expected to deliver around 20% of the total electricity story of the recreation center. Cumberland Council notes that early performance data has shown that surplus electricity is exported to the grid during periods of high solar generation, which offers a useful source of income for the center.

Two other leisure centers in the Cumberland area were also supported by the financing of Sport England. In addition to the Workington Leisure Center, the Sands Center in Carlisle and Wigton Baths also benefited from the financing injection to improve their energy efficiency; The three locations provided a combined investment of £ 73,000 from Sport England.

Alderman Anne Quilter, executive member of Cumberland Council for lively and healthy places, called the project “a fantastic example” of how targeted investments can improve the sustainability of local communities. She added: “This installation not only contributes directly to our carbon and energy management plan, but also comes in accordance with our broader commitment to tackle the climate -needed situation and build the environmental power in Cumberland.”

Other local authorities and private leisure centers also look at the sun sector to be Dcarbonise. Earlier this month Harvey completed Sports Village van Nottingham had the third phase of the PV installation of Solar PV, which brings its total capacity for solar generation to 571.5 kWp. Onsite Zonne generation in the recreation center will meet 46% of its electricity needs, with 74% of the energy generated by the PV system that drives the daily activities of the building, and surplus solar energy that is used to heat the swimming pool.

In the meantime, private leisure centers and health clubs in the private PV are increasingly installing their activities. In March, Health and Wellness Club operator The Bannatyne Group installed solar panels on the roofs of eight of the sites thanks to a collaboration with Shawton Energy.
