The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has opened a tender for the engineering, design and installation of solar panel systems at its offices across the country.

The tender documents show that the company, which oversees the national tax system and customs authorities, plans to form a panel of contractors who will be called in to install the solar systems if necessary.

The panelists will be divided into three regions in South Africa. The first group will cover Gauteng; the second will cover the Eastern Cape, Free State, Northern Cape and Western Cape; and the third will cover KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the North West. Bidders can submit proposals for one or more regions.

The chosen bidders will be responsible for the complete engineering and design of the solar system, as well as the installation of all necessary infrastructure, grid connection works and remote monitoring.

An online, non-mandatory briefing session will be held on November 15. Applications must be received by mail no later than December 9.

SARS said it is establishing green alternative energy sources in its offices nationwide to reduce the operating costs of its facilities and reduce diesel consumption from its generators during periods of emergency. tax deduction.

In October, the South African University of the Western Cape opened one 4 MW tender for solar energy and storage.
