New York City-based solar energy developer UGE just powered its newest community rooftop solar project in New York City. Located on Staten Island, the 510 kW project sits atop a shopping plaza. UGE now owns and operates 10 rooftop solar projects in New York City, with another two in the final stages of construction.

UGE’s newest community solar project is built atop Expressway Plaza, a shopping center on Staten Island. Subscribers to the Expressway Plaza community solar project will save at least 10% on their electric bills.

Expressway Plaza is owned by Feldcoan East Coast-focused real estate developer.

“Feldco is a family-owned company committed to sustainable construction and establishing long-term relationships with the communities we serve,” said Greg Feldman, partner and vice president at Feldco. “By becoming a community solar host with UGE, we are advancing these commitments by providing energy cost savings and a source of clean energy to the community surrounding Expressway Plaza.”

Feldco will receive long-term lease payments in exchange for hosting the project. In addition, UGE covered the cost of a necessary roof replacement at Expressway Plaza, keeping the building structurally sound for the solar project’s lifespan of at least 22 years.
