The Ukrainian National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities (NEURC) has approved new feed-in tariffs (FiT) for solar installations of households, small businesses and energy cooperatives.
The FiT, known in Ukraine as the green tariff, is a guaranteed state payment available to households and companies that sell excess electricity from their renewable energy installations back to the national electricity grid.
The new tariff for residential solar installations, which must have a capacity of no more than 30 kW, is set at UAH 6.13 ($0.14)/kWh, replacing the previous tariff of UAH 6.79/kWh.
For small businesses and energy cooperatives with solar installations up to 150 kW, the new FiT rate is set at UAH 5.49/kWh, compared to a previous rate of UAH 6.32/kWh.
To qualify for the green rate, installations of small companies and cooperatives must be placed on roofs or facades of buildings. Such restrictions do not apply to households, where ground installations are also permitted.
The latest FiT rates came into effect earlier this month and will be in effect until December 31, 2029. Owners of previously commissioned installations will retain their previous rates. A list of previously approved rates is available on NEURCs website.
Last November, Ukraine changed its loan scheme for households installing hybrid renewable energy systems to a one-time repayment of 30% of the principal debt. In March, it announced a series of changes to legislative acts affecting energy markets, including the prioritization of solar-plus-storage systems in future renewable energy auctions.
Ukraine will have deployed approximately 1.5 GW of solar energy by 2025, bringing its cumulative capacity to more than 8.5 GW.
