The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) says that the solar scale on utility scale grew by 32%, while the distributed solar energy rose by 15%, causing their respective shares to almost 5% and 2% of the total electricity generation. In general, the American electricity generation has risen by 3.1% year after year.

In the past 12 months, the photovoltaic sources for solar energy accounted for more than 6.8% of all electricity generated in the US, until 5.5% in 2023An increase of 24% on an annual basis, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA) of the US Department of Energy. This growth took place despite an increase of 3.1% in the total American electricity generation.

In absolute terms, Zonne generation expanded by 27%, a figure somewhat darkened by the overall rise in electricity demand.

According to the Eia’s Electric power monthly reportTotal photovoltaic solar generation exceeded 300 TWH, an increase of 64 TWH compared to the previous year. This 27% growth was the largest absolute increase in the solar generation since 2016, despite the fact that it came from a much larger installed basis.

Utility-Scal Zonne-Zonne energy grew by 32%, while the distributed solar energy grew by 15.3%according to the EIA. As a share of the total American generation, the solar scale on utility scale now accounts for almost 5%, while the distributed solar energy contributes just over 1.9%.

Last year, PV Magazine USA correctly predict that solar energy would reach 6.9% of the total American electricity generation based on the 35.3 GW of new capacity used in 2023.

Wind and sun together supplied 17.2% of all American electricity. Three states – Iowa, South Dakota and Kansas – now generate more than 50% of their electricity from these two sources. All three states are strong wind generators, while Solar plays a smaller role in their generation mix.

After two years of stagnation, CO₂-free electricity generation increased, as a result of which 40.9% of the total American generation was surpassed by the end of 2024, an increase of 39.5% the previous year.

The majority of this growth came from wind and solar energy, which increased their combined share from 15.4% to 17.2%, a 1.7% increased the total growth of 1.4% of the CO₂-free generation. A slight decrease in the hydro -electric generation was compensated by increased nuclear output.

Different states saw the generation of solar energy grow More than 50% in 2024. South Dakota was at the forefront with a dramatic 7,000% increaseWhile the state brought its first two solar facilities on Utility scale online.

Two states, Maine and New Mexico, stood out as fast-growing markets because they grew from a base of all strong solar generation, which exceeded 10% solar generation for the first time. Much of their growth came from community installations in the community.

The gap between the top ten of the solar generating states and the lower ten remains enormous. However, when considering carbon for the long term, the image is more nuanced. Last year, PV Magazine USA The five investigated “Solar Laggards‘And discovered that Oklahoma, Kansas and North Dakota, despite the ranking of low in solar energy, are strong wind force producers. In the meantime, Alaska, which experiences months from at least to zero sunlight, is an understandable exception. That leaves West Virginia as the true nation in both solar and clean energy. According to the Solar Energy Industries Association, West Virginia is in 48th place in the nation for solar energy, so that only 0.41% of its electricity is received from the sun.
