Sweden-based Innoventum has launched a line of solar carports equipped with bifacial modules in a larch wood structure. The solution can include electric vehicle charging, energy storage, LED lighting and inverter systems.

Swedish renewable energy systems supplier Innoventum has launched a line of solar carports equipped with bifacial modules in a glue-laminated timber structure, along with electric vehicle charging, energy storage, lighting and inverter equipment.

The larch wood carport Innoventum is equipped with invisible wood connections and ground screw foundations, supplied by the German manufacturer Krinner. Such foundations allow faster installation than conventional concrete formwork and, according to the manufacturer, have minimal impact on the environment.

The Swedish company recently completed two carports for twelve vehicles at the Schneider Electric Electropole office in Grenoble. The carports are equipped with 136 double-sided double glazing modules of 430 W with a 30-year product and linear performance warranty.

They are all equipped with an advanced direct current (DC) microgrid solution developed by DC Systems BV, a Schneider Electric company based in the Netherlands and specialized in DC systems for commercial and infrastructure applications.

The microgrid solution for parking lots allows a choice between off-grid or grid-tied operation. “It is an option that makes electric vehicle charging available everywhere,” says Julien Daligault, CEO of Innoventum pv magazinenoting that the only DC-AC conversion takes place at the interconnection with the electricity grid.

The rest of the equipment runs on DC power, including the solar panels, electric vehicle chargers and integrated LED lighting. According to Innoventum, the reduced number of DC/AC conversions in the various carport subsystems means less cabling and lower costs.

In addition to commercial real estate solutions, Innoventum offers a standardized line of small and medium-sized carport kits.

They have a snow load resistance of 2.5 kilonewtons/m2 and are equipped with a waterproof racking system. There are three models. The Solar Carport 15, a 6.2 kW system of 29.9 m2 and good for 30,000 km of charging per year; the Solar Carport 18, a 7.4 kW system, a surface area of 35.8 m2 and suitable for 38,000 km of charging per year; Solar Carport 24, a 9.9 kW system, 47.6 m2 in size and suitable for 43,000 km of charging per year.

A white-colored hyper-reflective ground cover is optional to allow for high albedo and a faster return on investment. Energy storage systems are supplied by the Swiss manufacturer Studer Innotec. Advanced charging equipment for electric vehicles can be supplied by CTEK Sweden.

According to Innoventum, a network is being built for commercial industrial projects. Sales are handled directly from Sweden, except in the UK, where renewable energy technology partner Pure Energy (REGen) Ltd is responsible for product marketing and installation.
