A team of the Swiss federal laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (EMPA) has developed a 3D-printed battery. Fungi are used as an anode and cathode with one freight electrons during metabolism and the other able to absorb them.

Researchers in Switzerland are developing a biodegradable battery made of mushrooms. Bee EmpaA 3D printer has combined two types of mushrooms to create a small living cell that generates electricity.

The responsible academics report a possible application for non-toxic diet in simple measuring devices such as the temperature sensors used in agriculture or environmental research. After supplying temperature sensors with power for a few days, the organic batteries would fall apart.
