A new study of Agile electrification And the UC San Diego Design Lab finds 65% grid defense, where homeowners themselves use generated electricity and rely less on the electricity network, the homeowners of North Bay can save an estimated $ 150,000 for 20 years by lowering and stabilizing and protecting and protecting against future tariff increases. The study shows the value of ‘Solar energy-guided electrification’, a method for home electrification in which homeowners transfer gas equipment to electric alternatives and their houses can provide electricity with solar energy and battery storage.

Most important findings:

  • Electricity plays a disproportionate role in energy costs for home: while natural gas explains the majority (60%) of energy consumption in the house, it only matters 22% of the total energy bill.
  • Raster -guided electrification is expensive: although electrified devices are more efficient than their gas counterparts, the higher costs of grid electricity make the transition to electrification more expensive for homeowners.
  • 65% Defection exposes legal costs of solar energy versus grid energy: homeowners achieve optimum savings by reducing the total input of the grid energy by 65% and controlling the electric load with solar energy.
  • System dimensions under NEM 3.0: Solar energy-guided electrification is in line with recent changes to the net measurement policy of California that encourages “self-consumption” of solar zonne-zon and discourages the export of solar energy to the grid.

“The study shows that when homeowners look at their total energy investment during the lifetime of their systems, combining solar energy with electrification of gas equipment is the most economic approach with the extra benefit of carbon,” said main investigator and UC San Diego Design Lab Designer in Residence Chantelle Domingue.

The study was carried out using customer data from Northern Pacific Power Systems, a regional solar installer in North California. Researchers analyzed four different electrification scenarios for 60 houses of average size in Sonoma County.

“Various companies and manual steps were involved to make this research possible. The importance of cooperation and access to data cannot be overestimated, “Domingue added.

In response to the findings of the study, Noord -Pacific today launched the Energy -independence for everyone Campaign to help homeowners in Sonoma, Napa and Marin Counties with the Defect of Utility, Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Northern Pacific uses the research to go further strategically than the installation of solar and battery storage and to become an extensive electrification partner. As the first installer in California who carries out such an initiative, Northern Pacific attract national attention from colleagues from the industry who would like to learn from his strategies.

“The industry has long believed that it is fundamental to look at the costs of solar energy compared to scheduling capacity, driving home electrification with Zonne -Zonne and battery storage should be the most logical for homeowners, but we did not have the framework to prove it. Now we do that, “said Andrew Krause, CEO at Northern Pacific Power Systems and President of Agile Electrification. “This report shows that electrification by solar energy is a victory for both homeowners and the solar industry. We are proud to put this study into practice and ‘by adopting solar energy-guided electrification as a methodology. Through Agile electrification we can share lessons in the real world with other installers who want to help homeowners electrify with solar energy. “

As part of the campaign, Northern Pacific works together with technology suppliers who simplify the electrification of the home. Such a partner, Balto Energy, generates adaptive digital twins of the customer’s house to simulate thousands of options for home electrification. The platform compares results and recommends a personalized solar and battery configuration to meet the future energy needs of the customer.

CEO of Balto Energy and UC San Diego Designer in Residence James Quazi said: “The results of the study emphasize the new challenge of the industry – there is an information gap that prevents homeowners from doing what is in their best interest. Homeowners need two things to electrify their homes: reliable information and a way to take action about that information. We are very happy to work with Northern Pacific Power to give homeowners of North Bay the analysis and the confidence that is necessary to continue with their electrification projects for home. “
