Of the 6.9 GW pre-qualified battery energy storage systems (BESS), equal to 1.9 GW devoured capacity, about 1.8 GW closed 15-year contracts in the T-4 auction of the VK-Bijna Double of last year’s volume. Only a week earlier, the T-1 auction also established a record for BES-purchasing.

The UK National Energy System Operator (NESO) released the provisional T-4 capacity market auction results for delivery in 2028-29, which was aimed at 43.7 GW.

The T-4 auction was closed on March 11 and 43.1 GW was obtained over 669 units. Existing technology explained around 40 GW, or 81% of the capacity that contains the action, which means that new construction capacity, which can be at a higher price, was needed to close the gap.

The auction was released for a price of GBP 60/KW/year ($ 84/kW/year), compared to the all time high clearing price of all times of GBP 65/kW/year. The purchasing exercise was approximately GBP 4 billion, an increase compared to the GBP 3.6 billion of the past year.
