Bulgaria inaugurates 496 MWH Battery System – PV Magazine International

Bulgaria has completed a 496 MWH Battery Energy storage system, invoiced as the largest in the European Union. Crews completed the project in six months with the support of the local authorities.

Bulgaria has inaugurated a 124 MW/496.2 MWH Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the city of Lovech, described by the Ministry of Energy as the largest such installation currently working in the European Union. The system consists of 111 battery containers and was developed by Advance Green Energy Ad, a company that is owned by the Kiril and Georgi Domuschiev brothers.

Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov said that the project ‘The first step’ is in the direction of a national goal to reach 10 GWH battery storage within the following year. A recent Call for capacity Awarded nearly 9,713 MWh in new projects.
