The Great Lakes LonsThe Minor League baseball team to support the Los Angeles Dodgers, has replaced an existing 20-year solar system in the Dow Diamond Stadium in Midland, Michigan, with brand new panels from Jinkosolar. The Jinko panels use polysilicon from the nearby Hemlock Semiconductor (HSC).

“Solar panels at Dow Diamond is not a new concept for us; we have always made every effort since the land on the stadium was broken to be as energy -efficient as possible,” said Chris Mundhenk, president and general manager of Loons. “Sustainability and sport can share the same field and we are lucky that partners such as HSC and Jinko Solar share the common values in the sustainability arena. Their generosity and expertise in solar energy have become a reality this project.”

The new system, installed by Blasy Electric and located on the south side of Dow Diamond at the parking lot of the Outfield, replaces an older solar panel that was installed in the stadium almost 20 years ago. The improved array contains 80 from Jinkosolar’s very efficient eagle modules, which contain the American polysilicon of HSC. Jinkosolar’s Eagle Preserve Takeback and Recycling Program has already recycled the dismantled solar panels.

“We are pleased to work with the Loon and Hemlock Semiconductor to Dow Dow Diamond with the next generation of Zonne-Zonne energy to Power,” said Nigel Cockroft, general manager of Jinkosolar (US). “These panels were built with polysilicon made here in Michigan, which shows that US materials and the technology of Jinkosolar can deliver clean energy and real community effects. And although the original solar panels were not ours, we have ensured that they recycles them through our Eagle Preserve program, because sustainability does not stop at the installation.”

The new system generates up to 50,000 kWh for the margin annually. SPW estimates the size of the array at about 35 kW.

“We believe that sustainability starts at home and Dow Diamond is a home base for so many in our community,” said Phil Rausch, vice -president of Corning Division of Commercial for Solar and Hemlock Semiconductor Senior Vice President of Commercial. “This solar array uses the most affordable energy source of the 21st century, with the help of a foundation made of our hyper-purified polysilicon that is made here in the Great Lakes Bay region. We are proud to support a project that reflects our shared values and provides permanent benefits to the region that we call at home.”
