S’tile has launched fully customized solar panels for repowering and renewing rooftop PV systems, with exact-fit replacements or higher-efficiency upgrades tailored to each project.
French solar energy company S’tile has unveiled a new solar panel solution for repowering and renewing rooftop PV systems at the Energaia fair in Montpellier, southern France.
“We develop customized solar panels to replace modules in existing photovoltaic systems,” says a spokesperson pv magazine. “If the original system has strict size limitations, we redesign the panels to exactly match the dimensions and electrical properties required. In repowering projects, this also allows us to increase output by using modern, more efficient solar cells.”
For simple one-to-one replacements, the company replicates the electrical performance of the original modules. “There are few companies in France that offer this level of customization, so we fill that niche,” the spokesperson added.
The custom panels cost slightly more than standard modules, depending on the volume. “For larger quantities we are around €0.20 per watt. More complex, low-volume designs can cost between €0.20 and €0.30 per watt,” the spokesperson said.
S’tile assembles some of its modules in Poitiers, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France, using Chinese cells based on different technologies. “We tend to use PERC cells when system capacity cannot be increased, such as when renewing projects, and TOPCon or back-contact technologies when repowering is required,” the spokesperson explained.
For larger volume orders, S’tile relies on its long-standing manufacturing partners in China. “We select all materials and design the entire internal structure; our partners carry out the production. The warranty is provided by us, although we are of course dependent on our Chinese partners for components,” the spokesperson said.
All of the company’s products are completely tailor-made and no standard range is offered. “For each customer request, we create a special technical data sheet with the relevant specifications,” the spokesperson said.
