Aurora Energy Research releases a new battery intelligence platform

Aurora’s new hub, called Flexplorer, integrates into the company’s existing intelligence platform, EOS. The new tool found that UK battery assets more than doubled their revenues (+126%) between February and March 2026, due to the conflict in the Middle East and the price impact on fossil fuels.

According to Aurora, Flexplorer highlighted how BESS quickly transitioned from providing system stability services to wholesale electricity trading during the price spike, underscoring their growing role in capturing value during periods of volatility.

Victor Yip, senior research associate at Aurora Energy Research, said: “What this highlights is the structural advantage that batteries have in volatile markets. Flexplorer data shows how quickly these assets can respond to price signals and capture value, without the cost pressures that come with thermal generation.”

Additionally, according to the company’s announcement, Flexplorer will allow users to compare assets market performance against both comparable assets and Aurora’s own benchmarks.

Because Aurora’s pre-existing technology is compatible with the new hub, the company announced that Flexplorer will be available through Aurora’s Flexible Energy Service plan.

Aurora confirmed that Flexplorer will use the company’s ‘Chronos’ engine, allowing users to see a backcast of an asset. Modeled on Aurora’s battery valuation software, the company’s LinkedIn announcement explained that users would be able to see what a battery might have earned over a period of time.

Furthermore, the technology will allow users to research and analyze future battery investments. In its statement, Aurora explained that users would be able to use Flexplorer to process otherwise complex battery data into actionable investment strategies.

With that goal in mind, Flexplorer focuses on investors, developers and utilities that oversee investment strategies and thereby generate value.

“Aurora has been producing reliable battery ratings and benchmarks since the dawn of the battery industry, and it’s great to see these capabilities embedded in Flexplorer,” said Rowan von Spreckelsen, Global Head of Products at Aurora Energy Research.

“Integrated within EOS, the platform provides one intuitive space for customers to assess predictions and benchmark real-world performance.”
