Utility and energy company EDF and developer PS Renewables have announced plans for a new solar project in Kent.

The proposed South Brooks Solar Farm will, if approved, connect to the UK Electricity Grid at the Dungeness Understation. Although EDF renewable energy sources and PS renewable energy sources have not unveiled the exact capacity of the proposed PV energy plant of the sun, the companies have stated that it will have a capacity of more than 50 MW and will therefore be obliged to go through the planning request process of the British government). The developers have also stated that the site will include a co-located battery energy storage system (BESS), although again the potential capacity of this has not yet been revealed.

As part of the pre-application phases of applying for a development constant order (DCO), the developers must carry out a number of community rounds for the project. The first of this starts on September 18 and runs until October 30, 2025. Feedback will be collected from the local community, both online and at personal events, which take place between 25 September and 11 October in the cities of New Romney, LittleLestone, Lydd and Camber. After this consultation, the project plans are refined and again presented to the community in a second round of pre-application consultation, which will take place next year.

EDF Power Solutions UK’s director of solar, storage and private wire Matthew Boulton said that South Brooks Solar Farm “has the potential to produce much-needed low-carbon electricity here in the United Kingdom, so that thousands of houses and companies can provide electricity every year.” He stated that the developers are currently at “a very early stage” in creating the proposals for the South Brooks Solar Farm, adding that “consultation is an essential part of our design process, and we encourage everyone to get involved in our coming consultation and comments on our plans”.

Matt Hazell, co-owner and director at PS Renewables, agreed and added: “We are delighted to work with the local community to use the existing capacity at Dungeness, so that we can supply a schedule that offers substantial benefits for the environment and the local area.”

UK Solar NSIPs in the turnout

EDF Renewables has previously collaborated with PS -renewable energy sources on other Solar NSIP proposals. Last year the two companies opened a second consultation for a new development of Zonne-Plus-Storage, the Rosefield Solar Farm, It will be established between Buckinghamshire and Aylesbury. Although the capacity for this project has not been unveiled, EDF -renewable energy sources and PS renewable energy sources have unveiled that it has concluded a grid connection agreement with National Grid that enables up to 500 MW of up to 500 MW of electricity.

In March of this year, PS had renewable energy sources Proposals for a 740 MW solar -PV energy center accepted for research by the planning inspection. The One Earth Solar Farm, located in Nottinghamshire, is a joint project with Ørsted; If accepted for a DCO, it is one of the largest commercial PV energy plants in the UK and a commercial operating date for 2030 is the target of the developers.
