UK energy company ep Group has announced a partnership with global smart energy company GridBeyond to deliver AI-powered optimization for a 50MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in North Baddesley.

The partnership will see GridBeyond’s energy management system (EMS) and AI-driven optimization platform deployed to manage ep Group’s battery storage operations, enabling real-time optimization, design, forecasting and trading capabilities.

The partnership also includes registering the facility on the capacity market. The duration of the battery storage system has not been disclosed.

GridBeyond’s platform provides access to multiple revenue streams within the UK energy market through accurate energy price forecasting, enabling strategic charging and discharging in line with market dynamics, while extending battery life. The system combines real-time market analysis with predictive algorithms to maximize revenue generation through various electricity market mechanisms.

The partnership supports ep Group’s joint venture with Norwegian energy systems and battery storage specialist Pixii AS, which was launched earlier this year to meet growing demand for optimized distributed energy systems in the UK. The collaboration integrates GridBeyond’s optimization capabilities with Pixii’s energy conversion technology and ep Group’s supply expertise.

“Our partnership with GridBeyond furthers our mission to accelerate the shift to distributed, low-carbon and digitalized energy systems,” said Leo Bedford, partner at ep Group.

“With this partnership, we combine GridBeyond’s industry-leading optimization capabilities with Pixii’s energy conversion technology and ep Group’s delivery expertise to help customers transform energy infrastructure into a strategic, value-generating asset.”

Meanwhile, Scott Berrie, origination director at GridBeyond, said the partnership demonstrates the company’s commitment to advancing energy storage in the UK.

“This partnership highlights the power of our AI-driven optimization capabilities, leveraging our market-leading forecasting and asset health expertise to maximize profits across all markets,” said Berrie.

The announcement follows GridBeyond’s recent expansion of partnerships within the UK energy storage sector. The company has has continued its partnership with ABB to offer BESS-as-a-service solutions, aimed at commercial and industrial customers looking for energy storage without capital investment requirements.

Last year GridBeyond launched a production process optimization designed to help industrial facilities reduce energy costs and carbon emissions through intelligent load management and demand response capabilities.

The company’s AI-driven approach to battery optimization has gained attention within the energy storage sector, with GridBeyond executives recently discussing how advanced modeling techniques enable more accurate revenue forecasts for investments in battery storage, potentially improving financing conditions for projects.

GridBeyond’s technology platform bridges distributed energy resources with electricity markets, enabling utility-scale renewable energy generation, battery storage and industrial loads to participate in grid services. The system directs flexibility to the right markets and provides asset owners with revenue opportunities and operational resilience.

ep Group is active in consultancy services, sustainable building design, capital investments and infrastructure delivery within the energy transition sector. Through ep Pixii, the company acts as the exclusive UK distribution partner for Pixii battery systems, combining Norwegian engineering with local market expertise.
