French portable energy developer Pess Energy has launched FlyWatt, a compact 10 kWh battery generator for film and TV production crews. It is the latest in its range of battery-based generators, made for film crews, construction, event and emergency services.

Like the other off-grid products in the catalogue, Flywatt is based on lithium-ion battery technology. It can be charged with the 1,500W Ekla silicon solar panel kit, which comes with its own travel case for easy packing and transport.

Flywatt was created with the needs of film and TV production crews in mind.

“Our main market is cinema production, and for them it is primarily an ecological matter. They have much stricter environmental standards and are obliged to use more environmentally friendly tools,” says a spokesperson for Pess Energy pv magazine. “Another important aspect of battery generators is working comfort. Compared to a gas-powered unit, our generators are completely silent and emit no odors. This could be life-changing in sectors such as cinema or construction.”

FlyWatt measures 69cm x 56cm x 85.5cm, making it small enough to stack 6 linked units in a van and deliver up to 66kW. Each 10 kWh unit provides end users with 6 power bank connections of 16A and 32A per unit. Charging time at a household socket is 3 hours.

The Ekla solar kit offers up to 8,800 Wh charging power per day, depending on the weather. The kit contains four panels based on monocrystalline solar cells with an energy conversion efficiency of 18%. Each array has a collapsible stand for optimal positioning throughout the day.

Ekla kits can be used to charge other Pess Energy products, such as the Ignition 5 kWh battery, in 6 hours. The larger 10 kWh Wattman requires 2 Ekla kits to charge in 6 hours. The PV panels weigh 100 kg including transport flight case. The panels reportedly have a lifespan of 10 years.

Pess Energy was founded in 2021 and is based in Marseille. It is backed by France-based venture capital investors including Rise Partners, Région Sud Investissement, Crédit Agricole Alpes Provence and CAAP Création.
