Greenvolt Next UK has announced that it agreed to install solar panels on the roof on two large shopping centers in the UK.

The two installations have a combined capacity of around 580 KWP and are installed in the Weston Favell shopping center in the Northampton and Birchwood shopping center in Warrington. The Array on the Weston Favell shopping center consists of 848 solar panels with a total of 381 KWP installed capacity, spread over 4,114 m2 From the roof space of the center.

The installation is set to start at the beginning of July; Once completed, it generates sufficient power to deliver around 26% of the average consumption of the center. In the meantime, the installation has already started on the Array on the Birchwood shopping center, which will organize 452 PV panels of more than 1,564m2 of roof space; The capacity of 200 kWp will provide for approximately 29% of the energy needs of the center.

The installations are financed under Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with MDSR Investments, the owner of Commercial Real Estate of the two shopping centers. According to the agreement, MDSR investments will buy cleaner, cheaper energy; The system is expected to prevent more than 145 tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year, saving 98 tons of Weston Favel and 47 from Birchwood.

Owen Power, CEO of Greenvoltt Next UK and Ireland said that the company is ‘happy’ to support MDSR in their efforts for low -carbon. He explained: “The large unused area of adaptable roof space that makes shopping centers perfectly suited to integrate solar installations.”

This is not the only recent example of large-scale buildings that look at solar PV to reduce their environmental impact. In March, Health and Wellness Club operator The Bannatyne Group installed solar panels on the roofs of eight of the sites thanks to a PPA deal protected by a partnership with Shawton Energy.

Last month it was announced that two leisure centers from the local authorities had received ownership centers on the roof solar panel installations thanks to the financing of Sport England. Under this financing injection, Workington Leisure Center in Cumberland has been able to install a 160 KW solar panel, while Witham Leisure Center has completed a 407 KW solar panel installation near Brintree, Essex, spread over its roofs and a new solar port for solar energy.
