Namaste Solar has completed a 333.54-KW roof project Boulder ModA modular home factory in Boulder, Colorado. The factory, a partnership between the city of Boulder, Boulder Valley School District and Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, produces energy-efficient, fully electric modular houses that are permanently affordable for households with low to middle income.

By feeding the All-Electric Boulder Mod Factory with solar energy, this project immediately supports the extensive climate activitiatives of the city and lowers the operational costs for the facility. Boulder strives to reach a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2030 and to become a Net-Zero city by 2035.
“This project is an example of the powerful intersection of renewable energy and community development,” said Jay Sugnet, senior planner for the city of Boulder and project manager for the modular home factory. “By integrating solar energy into Boulder Mod, we not only reduce our CO2 footprint, but also to support the production of affordable, energy-efficient houses that our community urgently needs.”
The city of Boulder and Namaste Solar have a long -term cooperation in initiatives for renewable energy. In 2020, Namaste Solar installed 13 systems in City or Boulder facilities, including parking garages and the water sources facility.

The Boulder Mod Solar installation was made possible by incentives in the inflation reduction law. The introduction of Elective Pay (also known as Direct Pay) enables local authorities to gain access to tax discounts for clean energy projects, even as non-taxable entities. Through elective reward, combined with additional payments of the solar energy of XCEL Energy*, C&I rewards income qualified and disproportionately affected communities program, Boulder was able to maximize the financial benefits of installing solar sun in this critical facility. The project received $ 333,540.00 as a subsidy from the Energy Impact Offset Fund, a regulation that requires that cannabis cultivators compensate 100% of their energy consumption.
“Municipalities have more options than ever to use solar energy to reduce costs and to protect it against rising energy costs,” said Rachel Mountain, co-owner and director of commercial sale at Namaste Solar. “This project is a radiant example of how renewable energy cities can enable to achieve their climate goals and at the same time support innovative programs such as Boulder Mod. It is a win-win for the community and the environment.”
The houses built at Boulder Mod not only offer the stability of the residence for members of the community, but will also help with the redevelopment of communities such as the Ponderosa Mobile Home Park, which was seriously affected by Boulder’s 2013 flood.
