Neoen has started building his first six-hour battery and has supplied the largest storage system in Australia, increasing the Western Australia portfolio to 2.2 GWH.
Renewable energy and storage developer Neoen has started the construction of the 164 MW/905 MWH Battery Energy Storage System and has also supplied the 341 MW/1.363 MWh second phase of the Collie Battery Project, both in West -Australia.
The Moretea battery is being built near the city with the same name, about 43 kilometers northeast of State Capital Perth. The system will include 252 Tesla Megapack 2XL units and will connect to the existing Muchea substation of Western Power in the South-West Interconnected System (SWIS). It is supported by a Capacity Investment Regulation Agreement with the Australian government.
Neoen, property By Canadian Global Asset Management Company Brookfield, said that the project is the first six-hour long-term storage activa and once operational, a critical grid stability and reliability services will provide in Western Australia.
“It will offer an essential peak question capacity, together with grid stability and reliability services, which makes the integration of more renewable energy in the network possible,” the company said.
Neoen said that the Moretea battery is expected to deliver 70 new jobs during construction, as well as economic opportunities for local companies.
UGL, a member of the CIMIC group, was contracted by Neoen to design, install and connect the battery of Mustea. After installation, ULGL offers test and commissioning support.
Immediately after the successful delivery of Neoen’s 341 MW / 1.363 MWH Collie Battery Stage 2, the project will be in the southwest of the state.
The Collie project, on 560 MW / 2,240 MWh during the two phases, is currently the largest battery that is in operation in Australia in Australia, where Neon notes that it is able to charge and unload the equivalent of 20% of the average demand in the Swis.
Neoen said that the second phase of the system has started since the start of the construction of less than 15 months and delivers its two years Grid capacity service contract With the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).
The developer said that the contract will help with tackling risks related to the retirement of coal-fired power plants, high penetration of solar energy on the roof and the increasing energy demand in Western Australia.
Jai Thomas, energy policy WA’s Coordinator of Energie, said that the integration of new clean energy generation and battery storage projects is a crucial part of the energy transition of the state and his journey to become a powerhouse of renewable energy.
The Myverea and Collie Battery Milestones increase the total storage capacity of Neoen in West -Australia to 724 MW / 3,145 MWh, which since 2022 represents more than $ 1 billion in investments in the state.
“The pace at which we have grown and stored in Western Australia is a reflection of the disciplined focus of the no-team, the power of our relationships with Tesla, UGL, Western Power and Aemo, and the confidence that we have cherished with our hosted CHIEFADENIEF,” said Neo-Landenive. Jean-Christophe Cheylus in a statement.
“I welcome the dedication of anyone who has brought Collie Battery online so quickly and look forward to the battery that is there to support the WA -Raster.”
Neoen’s total Australian portfolio From storage capacity that is currently in operation or under construction, has now reached 1.7 GW/5.1 GWH. The total global capacity in operation or under construction is 8.4 GW. Neoen is planning to install another 10 GW by 2030.
