French independent power producer (IPP) Qair has secured debt financing for the 46.51 MWp Brecks Solar Farm in Nottinghamshire.
This is the IPP’s first UK project to reach financial close, with construction expected to begin this month. Commercial operations are expected to commence in the second quarter of 2027.
Engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor INTEC Energy will carry out the construction of the project as well as the operation and maintenance (O&M) work for two years.
The project delivered a Contract for Difference (CfD) in the seventh round contracts awarded to a record number of 76 different developersof which 20 secured more than 100 MWp. Qair was among the companies that secured more than 100 MW with almost 190 MW of solar PV capacity across four PV projects, securing CfD in the latest round.
Senior debt financing for the project was obtained from German bank BayernLB.
Manuel Balseiro, head of supply and finance at Qair UK, said: “As our first project to reach this stage, Brecks lays a strong foundation for our growing UK development pipeline and marks the first milestone in our long-term commitment to delivering sustainable energy infrastructure that supports the UK’s transition to a cleaner and safer energy system.”
Furthermore, in addition to building its first solar PV project in Britain, Qair has also made progress on its portfolio of battery energy storage systems (BESS). Last year the IPP obtained planning permission for two BESS projects, both in Scotland: The 49.9 MW Middleton Farm energy storage facility in Aberdeenshire last July and the 342 MW Red Moss BESS project in South Lanarkshire in October 2025.
In total, the IPP has more than 5GW of solar PV, wind and BESS projects in its UK development pipeline.
