Record 13.6 GWH added to storage capacity for battery energy in January – PV Magazine International

RHO Motion noted large projects in Saudi Arabia and Hubei, China, and reported that the only non-lithium ions locations were three Chinese vanadium stream batteries.

The London-based analyst RHO Motion says that it has followed a January record 13.6 GWH from new Global Battery Energy Storage Systems (Bess) during the first month of 2025.

The electric vehicle, battery, charging and infrastructure analyst, owned by Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, said that his “monthly assessment of the battery energy” reported new battery projects in January 81.

With two-thirds of the new berry of the month used in China, RHO Motion reported that the country’s energy storage projects include a project of 1.2 GWH in the province of Hubei and the only three non-lithium-ion Bess activated in the month : Vanadium current batteries with a total storage capacity of 90 MWh.
