A total of 25 projects, with a combined capacity of more than 836 MW, will be connected under a new fast-track scheme developed by UK Power Networks’ (UKPN) Distribution System Operator (DSO).

The connection offerings are made possible under a new program called Technical Limits, which uses the insights and data developed through the Distributed Energy Resource Management (DERMS) platform to connect more generation to the grid.

Customers who have had connection offers accepted include a 98MW solar farm in the east of England and a 100MW combined storage and solar site in the south-east.

These include 14 projects in the East of England, totaling 465 MW, and 11 projects in Kent, Surrey and Sussex, totaling 371 MW.

Sotiris Georgiopoulos, director of DSO at UK Power Networks, said: “We are taking real, tangible action to help our customers overcome the long-term challenges on the national transmission system, an approach that will ultimately get more green energy into more people’s homes. and companies.

“This is just another step on our journey, and only through collaboration and collaboration can we take such important steps toward achieving net zero.”

Giles Frampton, Director of Evolution Power Limited, added: “By working closely with UK Power Networks, we have been able to bring forward the connection date of a solar PV project by four years, which will contribute significantly to the progress of Britain towards net zero and energy security. .”

However, the Technical Limits program is not limited to UKPN customers and has recently caused a stir with the news that National Grid Electricity Transmission and fellow UK Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) have enabled the dates for grid connection offers from more than 200 projects for clean energy. put forward.

Networks sent offers to a total of 203 projects 7.8 GW of capacitymore than double the production of the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station, with an average connection acceleration of 6.5 years.

A total of 393 projects are eligible for the program, and another 190 can receive expedited offers once they complete the affiliation offer process.
