Utility and energy company SSE has fully commissioned its Littleton Solar Farm in Worcestershire, the company’s first solar PV project.
Construction of the 31MW project in England started in December 2023covered by Solar energy portal at the time (although reported as starting in August).
Grupotec was the main engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project.
The Littleton Solar Farm included a wide range of measures across its 77 hectare site to protect and enhance local biodiversity, SSE said. This includes maintaining existing hedges, planting new trees and hedges with locally produced species, and creating wildflower margins to support pollinators.
The Britain looks set to deploy 5.5 to 6 GWh of grid-scale solar by 2026according to our colleagues at Solar Media Market Research.
SSE acquired the Littleton project in early 2022following on from the Net Zero Acceleration Program launched last year, which outlined a £12.5 billion investment plan. The company is also active in the deployment of other clean energy technologies, including wind energy, battery storage and green hydrogen, and is active abroad, including in Polish solar energy.
Last week, SSE commissioned one 300 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in West Yorkshire.
