Startup Besst, based in the US, has launched a new Redox Flow battery technology that is reportedly reaching 20 times higher energy density than conventional Vanadium Redox Flow energy storage systems.

“Our battery is well suited for solar and other renewable projects because the storage with extended duration offers without demolition, which makes the reliability of the clock behind,” said the CEO of the company, Joley Michaelson, said PV -Magazine. “That makes it effective for both hybrid renewable systems and independent stationary storage. The compact footprint also makes it easier to implement in addition to solar energy where the space is limited.”

“Our first focus will be the commercial and industrial market, in particular the government, critical infrastructure and industrial users who need absolute energy reliability and safety. We will start with a residential launch in early 2028,” he added.

The most important innovations of the system include an electrolyte made with zinc-polyiodide (zniâ‚‚), developed by the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) of the US Department of Energy (PNNL), and a “patent-ending” cell pile on the basis of the United States.
