Add Volvo to the list of EV companies that allow bi-directional charging in the United States. Thanks to a partnership with dcbel, Volvo EX90 owners will now be able to charge from vehicle to home in 2025.
The EX90, the company’s all-electric SUV, is the first Volvo car equipped with the necessary hardware and software to enable bi-directional charging. It transforms from a fully electric SUV into a flexible energy hub that can send power back to your home. Additionally, this provides the opportunity to use the EX90 to power the home during power outages.
With bi-directional charging, electric vehicles also have the potential to contribute to less strain on the grid while connected during peak times and smartly manage how you power your home.
With dcbel’s Ara Home Energy Station, people can take control of their energy supply with a single device. It allows energy to flow in both directions between a home and an electric car: it powers a home, charges vehicles and helps prevent outages through vehicle-to-home capabilities. Fully suitable for indoor and outdoor installation, the Ara system can charge two EVs simultaneously in both AC and DC, while intelligently managing all household energy sources with built-in AI.

Customers interested in purchasing the Ara Home Energy Station can do so now reserve a system directly with dcbel. The bi-directional capability is only compatible with the 2025 EX90 model. More information about access to bi-directional charging for the 2026 model will be announced later.
