The new heat pump is said to heat air up to 49 degrees Celsius. The heating capacity at full tax is a maximum of 63,000 BTU/hour.

The American Dandelion Energy has unveiled a new geothermal heat pump for heating and cooling in residential applications.

“Geothermal heating and cooling is very complementary with solar energy on roofs and many homeowners choose to use both,” said the CTO and co-founder of the company, Kathy Hannun. pv magazine. “Most American homeowners heat their houses with fuels such as natural gas, fuel oil or propane for heating. When they switch to geothermal heating and cooling, their system uses electricity to harvest renewable thermal energy and a very high efficiency. Thanks to solar energy on the roof, homeowners can produce this electricity themselves, for unparalleled cost savings and a full CO2-free operation. ”

The new system, called Dandelion Geo, consists of earth loops that extend from 300 ft (91.44 m) to 500 ft (152.4 m) deep and that circulate water and a non-toxic antifreeze mixture, as well as a heat pump the house is installed. A is also used Plate heat exchanger and a private air spiral to move heat from the ground to the house and back.

The heat pump is said to be possible Heats air to 49 C and reaches a performance coefficient (COP) of 5.2. The heating capacity at full tax is a maximum of 63,000 BTU/hour.

The new product also includes a single electrical circuit, automatic power control, unparalleled air flow flexibility and integrated earth lush pumps, soft start and monitoring.

The company explained that water circulates through the earth loops in the winter and is heated by the earth. The water then flows back to the geothermal heat pump, which concentrates the heat and spreads throughout the house. Then the water goes back to the earth to repeat the cycle.

In the summer the warm air from the house is led to the heat pump, where the heat is extracted and pumped into the earth loop, where it is cooled by the earth. The now cool water is then used to absorb more heat from the house.

The company will initially sell the new system on the American market. “Although we do not yet have a timeline for international expansion, Canada will be our first non-American market. Just like in a large part of the US, Canada has a strong need for cheap, carbon -free heating that is powerful enough for the coldest weather conditions. The Dandelion Geo is ideally suited for the Canadian market and we look forward to offering our heat pump there in the future, “says Hannun.
