Romanian company Hidroelectrica plans to install energy storage systems in all its hydroelectric power stations running along the river, to shift excess electricity during the day to peak periods in the evenings.

The announcement was made by Bogdan Nicolae Badea, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hidroelectrica, who emphasized the crucial role that energy storage must play in balancing the Romanian energy system and improving consumer outcomes.

“Today, the Romanian energy system is out of balance. We have seen the disappearance of many baseload capacities, and even in a free market affected by external crises, electricity costs for consumers could have been lower if the country had adequate storage infrastructure,” Badea said, noting that energy storage is essential for synchronizing production peaks with consumption peaks.
