An international research group conducted a literature review on capital expenditure-driven levelized costs of electricity optimization strategies for utility-scale PV systems. Tracking optimization, system voltage escalation and advanced system design are identified as the most promising cost savings areas. “The next wave of PV research must be LCOE-native, system-level and implementation-validated,” said a member of the research group. January 12, 2026 Lior Kahana An international research group led by scientists from Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Qatar has conducted a systematic analysis of capital expenditure (Capex) choices that can be strategically optimized to reduce the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE)…
Global solar PV deployment is entering a phase of adjustment. After several years of rapid expansion, installation growth is stabilizing across multiple major markets. EUPD Research calculations suggest that global additions in 2026 may not exceed 2025 levels. This shift is visible first and foremost in the world’s largest markets. China installed an estimated 365 GW in 2025, with annual PV demand expected to decline from this peak level. According to EUPD Global Energy Transition GET-Matrix©, in the United States (U.S.), installations are estimated at around 48 GW in 2025, marginally lower than approximately 50 GW in 2024, with additions…
The Connecticut Green Bank announced that eight multi-family affordable housing units are moving forward as the first round of projects under the Solar Marketplace Assistance Program Plus (Solar MAP+)making it easier for affordable multifamily providers to access renewable energy and battery storage. When completed, the eight solar projects will collectively provide approximately 2.4 MW of clean energy to 473 residential units. This gives property owners an average savings of approximately $569,000 in energy costs over the life of the panels, while tenants save an average of more than $350 in energy costs annually. Connecticut-based solar companies Earthlight Technologies and PurePoint…
The Solar Accelerated Transition Action Program (Solar ATAP), in effect since January 1, 2026, aims to build on Malaysia’s previous efforts to maximize the use of rooftops for solar energy generation by incentivizing consumers to export excess generation to the grid. The capacity limit is set at 100% of maximum consumer demand, or 1 MW. January 9, 2026 Blathnaid O’Dea Following the end of Malaysia’s net metering program (NEM) in June 2025, the government launched the Solar ATAP to continue the rollout of solar energy on the country’s commercial, industrial and residential rooftops. The new arrangement has been in effect…
Terra-GenJointly owned by Masdar and Igneo Infrastructure Partners, has achieved commercial operations at the Lockhart CL I and II battery energy storage project in San Bernardino County, California. Built and co-located with the Lockhart solar and battery resources already in operation, the Lockhart CL I ESS project provides 69 MW of capacity (276 MWh), and the Lockhart CL II ESS will add another 59.7 MW of capacity (238.8 MWh). The existing Lockhart solar project is already in operation. “California’s clean energy goals are among the most ambitious in the country, and I am confident in the positive impact our new…
If the testimonies from Women in Solar+ Europe 2025 have taught us anything, it is that inclusive leadership is not a concept to be debated; it is a daily practice that must be lived. At a time when traditional leadership models are proving insufficient for the complexities of today’s energy transition, the need to reimagine the way we lead has never been clearer. Beyond policies and promises, leadership reveals itself in behavior: who is trusted, who is promoted, who is heard, and who feels psychologically safe enough to show up fully to work. Get over this pv magazine series 2025,…
Solar power has collaborated with REC Group to produce a solar panel for the US residential market. TJ Rodgers unveils the SunPower/REC solar panel. The all-black solar panel peaks at 470 W and weighs 20 kg. It’s a rebranding of REC’s Alpha Pure-RX 470-W panel. The joint development agreement between SunPower and REC aims to develop, engineer and commercialize high-wattage frameless double-sided solar panels for the residential and light commercial solar markets. The announced panel is not two-sided, but SunPower plans to change that soon. Despite the fact that the original SunPower went bankrupt, current SunPower chairman and CEO TJ…
2025 marked a radical economic shift for the US solar industry, with a shorter window for federal subsidies and a presidential administration that actively resist developments in the field of sustainable energy. Import tariffs, universal inflation and high interest rates for project financing have also dampened the recent solar boom. Credit: Swift Current Solar Bankruptcies, furloughs and layoffs accompanied this massive change in the marketplace, impacting installers, manufacturers and other groups within the U.S. solar industry. Environmental business group E2’s latest “Clean economy worksAn analysis found that by October 2025, almost 30,000 jobs that would have been created by new…
President Donald Trump withdrew the United States 66 international organizationsincluding twelve dedicated to energy, renewable energy, climate change and environmental causes. This fruitful exit comes after the government launched an investigation into participating international organizations in February 2025. The United States will stop funding or cooperating with the United Nations agencies named in a presidential memorandum published Wednesday. This includes the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), an organization founded in 1992 and in which the United States joined shortly after its founding. The United States joined the UNFCCC during the former Republican period The term of President…
India is estimated to add 40 GW of solar capacity in the calendar year 2025, driven by utility-scale projects and rooftop growth. Tenders for energy storage also gained momentum. January 9, 2026 Uma Gupta By pv magazine India India added a “record” 40 GW of new solar power generation capacity in the calendar year 2025, according to a new report from SBICAPS, supported by steady utility-scale execution and sharp acceleration of rooftop installations under Prime Minister Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Despite the capacity growth, the report said the average utilization rate of solar power plants fell to about 16.5%…
