The PV-driven Redox flow battery is said to be able to achieve a maximum solar-output electricity efficiency of 3.11% for a period of 36 hours. The system contains a photovoltaic device of 25 cm2 hetero junction and is based on a neutral pH-rescue iodine breathing.

Van Ess News

Solar Redox Flow cells (SRFCs) are devices that can store electricity by harvesting sunlight via A photo selectrochemic (PE) panel. These storage devices attract more and more interest from scientists and research institutes and have so far only developed at research level.

Two of the biggest challenges that these batteries have to overcome, along with other small problems, are the fact that their performance is limited by inefficient photo -electrochemical reactions and that their storage capacity is limited by the physical dimension of fixed electrodes.

With this in mind, a group of researchers in the United Kingdom has developed a solar redox-flow battery that uses a PV unit instead of a PE system and is based on a neutral pH watery iodine boom redox couple.
