The Chinese electrochemical energy storage industry saw an explosive growth in 2024, with a totally installed capacity more than the doubling of the year, according to a report released on March 29 by the China Electricity Council (CEC). “2024 Statistic report on electronemic energy storage stations” Fast expansion, larger project sizes and continuous improvements in operational efficiency and safety as important trends for the year.

A total of 515 new battery storage stations were put into use, with 37 GW/91 GWH lake then twice the new capacity that was added in 2023. Of these, 74% came from assets on the scale scale of more than 100 MW, which marks a clear shift to large, centralized systems. At the end of 2024, the cumulative capacity of China reached 62 GW/141 GWH. Standing storage and renewable pair systems accounted for 95% of all installations.
