Zambia broke the land on the 100 MW Chipata West Solar Project, which will supply power to rural communities.
Zambian National Power Utility Zesco works together with the private sector, including China Machinery Engineering Corp., to help implement the Chipata West project. A statement on the website of the utility says that the project is expected to be delivered within 12 months.
It follows the commissioning of the 100 MW Chisama Solar Farm In May to date, the largest solar project in Zambia.
The country is currently working on deploying 1 GW of solar energy on Nuts scale, with more than ten projects that are currently under development, according to the Ministry of Energy of the Land.

The cumulative solar capacity of Zambia reached 196 MW towards the end of 2024, an increase of 134 MW at the end of 2023, according to figures from the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena).
