Germany supports Moll Batterien’s sodium-ion battery factory with more than €22 million – SPE

Moll Batterien has secured more than €22 million in public financing for a 1 GWh sodium-ion battery factory in Bavaria, part of an investment of around €103 million expected to come online in 2026.

Moll Batterien GmbH has unveiled plans to build a sodium ion battery production facility in Lichtenfels, Germany, with an initial annual capacity of 1 GWh. The factory is expected to create 126 jobs and training places, and is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2026.

The Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs said it will provide €19.65 million in support for the project under the federal Transformation Technologies framework. A further €2.52 million will come from the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund, bringing total public funding to €22.17 million.
